BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY

In the state of Edo, one of the ways in which land is prepared for agriculture is by the use of fire. The natural vegetation on the surface of the soil can be removed from Ekiadolor, which is located in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, specifically through a method known as bush burning. In general, this method involves lighting debris on fire. In particular, this method is used in Ekiadolor. The practice of burning fire could also lead to accidental burning of his land and other properties at his disposal. This ideal of burning his farm came to him with the food that fire has left behind after roasting his food, and the fire spread and destroyed everything that was left behind in the environment. The effect of bush burning is a public concern, which should not be for the farmer alone and should be handled with seriousness (Sheuyange , 2022).

The burning of farmland in order to make it suitable for agricultural growth has a significant impact on the fertility of the soil. Phosphorous, nitrogen, and sulfur are three examples of plant nutrients that are converted to gas during the burning process. These three elements are essential for plant growth but are lost in the process. Even though it is high in phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium, the ash that is produced when material is burned is readily removed by rain. Ash is the primary result of burned material. The heat generated by burning generates conditions that are unfavorable for the activity of the organisms that live in the soil, such as earthworms, bacteria, and so on (Van der, 2022).

He also discovered that the seeds of fruits he had consumed and then discarded had sprouted on the field he had burned, and as a consequence, he had to include fire into his farming method. It was found that much of the plant detritus following clearing, particularly on large scale agricultural and small scale farms, could be eliminated by burning. This technique dates back to around 2000 years ago (Stroppiana, 2022). In addition to setting fire to the soil in order to cultivate it, animals are also caught in the traps.
